Armine Yalnizyan
Economist Armine Yalnizyan has written about labour markets, social policy and public finance for over 20 years, always with the goal of putting the public back into public policy. After 10 years as program director with the Social Planning Council of Metropolitan Toronto, she authored a ground-breaking report in 1998 on income inequality in Canada, entitled The Growing Gap. In 2007 – after 10 years of strong economic growth – she reprised the topic of income inequality, with the report The Rich and the Rest of Us. In 2008, Armine joined the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives as senior economist. She has served on advisory groups to Ministers at the federal and provincial levels with respect to labour and income support policies. Honoured as the first recipient of the Atkinson Foundation Award for Economic Justice, she received the Morley Gunderson Prize from the University of Toronto in 2003. Armine serves on the boards of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and the Canadian Association of Business Economists. She is a grateful member of the Trinity St. Paul’s United Church congregation.
Armine spoke at Brescia University College Auditorium on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. You may view/download the video, or click the links below to find more information.
